The Troop follows the story of five teenage boys and their Scoutmaster as they spend a weekend away on Falstaff Island, a remote island a short distance away from the town where they all live. The novel follows a troop of Boy Scouts who must deal with not only the threats posed by killer tapeworms, but also the homicidal and sociopathic tendencies of one of their own. The following year, it won the inaugural James Herbert Award for Horror Writing. The novel was released in English in hardback, e-book, and audiobook on Februthrough Gallery Books. So simple, yet it has a lot of people's worst fears in it, with something you can't stop once it enters your body.The Troop is a 2014 horror novel written by Canadian author Craig Davidson under the pen name Nick Cutter. I mean the gruesome body horror gore, nihilistic settings, the addition of extra dangers aside from the worms and that Lord of the Flies feel just fits so perfectly.
Even though this is the first book by Nick Cutter that I'm reading, right now it's looking like a 5/5 for me. I recently read Ketchum's Off Season, which honestly wasn't as great as I was expecting, especially after some of his other classics. I've always been a Bentley Little fan, at least his older stuff like The Revelation, Dominion and The Return, which are just those kind of novels that start normal and the intensity level just rises with quick scenes of graphic violence and gore with suspense and pure tension filling the gap between those gruesome scenes.
